Our Eco Standards

We do not carry junk, products that have been green washed, or products that have been shipped from half way around the world.  It is not a strict requirement, but many of our products are made from artisans and craftsman in the United States who obtain most of their materials locally and ship their products to regional markets (no more than 1,000 miles from their production facilities).  

Material Standards

The structural and decorative materials of each product must be of recycled content, sustainably harvested, or reclaimed.  

Recycled content:  Mechanical recycling is preferred to that of feedstock recycling because it generally uses less energy and other resources during its lifecycle. 

• If recycled feedstock is used, then 80% of materials must be post-consumer waste by weight.

• If mechanically recycled material is used, then 60% must be post-consumer waste by weight.

• If an item contains both recycled feedstock and mechanically recycled material, then the weight of the mechanically recycled material is adjusted upward by 33.33%.  

Natural materials (e.g., cotton, hemp, wood): 

• Must either be sustainably grow or harvested and/or organic.

• Must be reclaimed.  

Nontoxic

• Products must be non-toxic to users.

• The manufacturing processes must not introduce toxic concentrations of chemicals to the environment that threaten human or animal life. 

• Toxic substances must not be introduce into the environment from the disposal of the products in concentrations that threaten human or animal life. 

Transportation

Our transportation standards are designed to minimize the amount of energy used in transporting materials and components to production facilities, products to distribution centers, and products from distribution centers to retailers.

• As a general rule, all of our products are drop-shipped from production facilities directly to retailers to minimize the energy used in transportation.  
• Distance that materials and components travel to factories must also be minimized by our manufacturers.

Packaging

Product Packaging

• Minimal or no product packaging is required
• Product paper packaging must be 100% recycled and 35% PCW.  

Shipment packaging: At least 50% of the packaging used for shipping must be reused or recycled on average.
